Latency in the Bosch camera feed or metadata out of sync in the video (Milestone integration)

Latency in the Bosch camera feed or metadata out of sync in the video (Milestone integration)

Possible causes and solution(s)

Symptoms

It might happen that metadata to start being left behind. Or when you restart a camera, the bounding boxes remains around the objects but with many seconds behind. Therefore, because alarms are sent using analytic events, when the time doesn´t match with the event, it could be hard to follow the alarm list. E.g.: when you click an alarm, you cannot see the object, but only a bounding box.

Bosch cameras allow you to customize the GOP (group of pictures) structure for the H.264 codec, but any option other than IP may cause less than ideal decoding performance.

This could lead in issues, such as:

  • latency in the Bosch camera feed;
  • streams from Bosch cameras or encoders show strange behavior;
  • metadata overlays are out of sync with the video on Bosch cameras;

Solution

Make sure that you have the GOP structure set to IP and not to IBP or IBBP.

The issue is solved by following the recommendations in this Milestone KB article: https://supportcommunity.milestonesys.com/s/article/Bosch-cameras-show-increased-latency?language=en_US
